First Live Gauging Run (Addington Village - New Addington)

Wednesday 1st September (1000 - 1400)

See photos below text: -

Just in case it was earlier than planned, I arrived at Sandilands for 0720. I then had a long, tedious wait before giving up and moving on to Lloyd Park where more of the regulars were waiting. Eventually just before 10am, 2530 arrived and slowly moved on towards Addington. It paused after Oaks road and again at Coombe Lane and Gravel Hill before making it across Kent Gateway (now under fully operational Traffic Light Control) to Addington Village.

More familiar and not so Familiar ones with Cameras to follow the tram up Lodge Lane. Pausing as usual at each Stop, the tram waited before the points at New Addington while the Inspector(s) - There were at Least 3! - discussed the lack of check rails. The tram eventually continued but the check rails were installed prior to the facing move to return to Croydon. By this time, many of Addington's nicer residents (The Yobs are obviously nocturnal!) had emerged with cameras and a large crowd gathered.

At 1208, 2530 came into the Platform and after 20 years of ideas, arguments and planning, New Addington had a tram. The Tramlink Staff and the Local Councilor especially were delighted. Croydon Advertiser covered the event too and everyone was allowed onto the platform to look.

The tram then reversed to check the other platform before returning to Croydon. They stopped by Addington Park so the staff could get some lunch at the adjacent Petrol Station!

The Completion of this test means that Elmers End is now the only place on the System not to have seen a tram.
