The Croydon Centenarian was organised by John Gent to mark the centenary of electric trams in Croydon. Croydon's first electric tramway opened on 26th September 1901 between Norbury and Purley. Guests at the Opening included the Home Secretary.

The tour for invited passengers only was worked by 2535 and guests included Councillor Mary Walker (former Mayor of Croydon who was instrumental in supporting Tramlink), Bob Dorey (TCL Chairman), Nick Owen (ITN Newsreader and tram supporter), and .. er .. Me (Thanks for the embarrassing announcement, John)!

The tour was very enjoyable with few problems. The tram carried a special headboard on each end and acquired a variety of old style Route Numbers during the tour (16, 18 and 42) - The old Croydon Routes. 2535 looked rather good at Beckenham Junction with an old style "42" in the corner of the windscreen rather than the usual coloured card running numbers. The guests were also treated to a variety of musical interludes thanks to Graham Feakins and his CD player.

On arrival back at Church Street, the group retired to an "Elegant Collation" at the Dog and Bull in Surrey Street for a buffet lunch.

Many thanks go to "Sir" John Gent for organising the tour, Peter Walker and the Dog and Bull for the excellent food, First Tram Operations for planning the timings, our drivers, Andy Gray and Tony Dyer and TCL for allowing the tour to take place.
